Homicide Investigation in Spring Township

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
 
On Sunday, December 13, 2020, at approximately 9:06 P.M., Berks County Department of Emergency Services received a 911 call from a female at a residence located on Maywood Avenue, Sinking Spring, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
 
The female caller was emotional and most of the information she was providing was unintelligible.
 
The 911 call taker dispatched both Emergency Medical Services and South Heidelberg Township Police Officers to this Maywood Avenue residence, which is a single home.
 
At approximately 9:12 P.M., the first Police Officer arrived at the scene followed by Western Berks Ambulance. EMS personnel provided medical care and advanced life support which included CPR, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, to the victim.
 
The victim, described as a (39) thirty-nine year old male, had a penetrating wound to his chest and was immediately removed from the residence and transported via ambulance to the Trauma Center at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. (Tower Health)
 
At approximately 10:15 P.M., the victim was pronounced deceased by medical staff.
 
An Autopsy will be performed on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 5:00 P.M. at the Research Laboratory located at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
  
The Berks County Detective’s Office was notified, and a team of Detectives responded to the Trauma Center at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center as well as the Sinking Spring residence.
 
The Berks County Detectives have partnered with the South Heidelberg Township Police Department and are conducting a joint investigation, which also includes the Berks County District Attorney’s Forensic Services Unit, who also responded to process the crime scene.
 
The Berks County Coroner’s Office is in the process of notifying the victim’s next of kin.
 
At this time, we are in the very early stages of this joint investigation and as more information is developed and the investigation progresses, we will provide additional updates.
 
The Berks County District Attorney’s Office states there is no threat or danger to the neighborhood or community, that the investigation thus far confirms that this is an isolated incident.
