August 6th:
  • The Bingaman Nature Center: Moth Night
    • 8:00 PM
Join Jim Eckert and Environmental Education staff as we spend an evening outdoors in search of our nocturnal insect friends, moths. Bring a flashlight. FREE. August 15th:
  • 13th RUN 4 SAM 4 Mile Race & 2 Mile Walk at Gring's Mill Park
    • Registration at 8:00 AM / Race at 9:30 AM / 2 Mi. Walk at 9:45 AM
Proceeds from this event support the operation and maintenance of the Union Canal Tow Path and significant projects in Gring's Mill Park. The proceeds also support a scholarship awarded each year and donation to several local charities that provide vital services to the community.

August 26th:
  • The Return of the Bats of the Bridge!--Berks County Heritage Center
    • 7:00 PM
Join Dr. Karen Campbell of Albright College and explore the lives of bats, from around the world, to Pennsylvania, to our own Wertz’s Covered Red Bridge. We will talk about the characteristics that these flying mammals share, and those that make them distinctive, and how these supports a range of different roles in nature, including the interactions between bats and humans.
 
August 28th:
  • Gruber Wagon Works Wagon Storage Open House: Berks County Heritage Center
    • 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
View the Heritage Center’s collection of Gruber wagons. Featuring more than 20 Gruber made wagons, sleighs, and wheelbarrows, explore the onsite storage building at the Berks County Heritage Center.
 
August 28th:
  • Watersheds, Macros, and Microscopes
    • 11:00 AM
The Bingaman Nature Center Join us as we dive into what a watershed is and conduct experiments on mini watersheds to determine the effects our everyday practices have on land and water resources. We will then look into the fascinating world of macro invertebrates using live macros, discuss their amazing adaptations, and sort them to determine water quality. September 12th:
  • Melcher Grist Mill Open House-Berks County Heritage Center
    • 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Tour the relocated 1888 Melcher’s Grist Mill onsite at the Heritage Center. This special opening day will feature history and function of the mill, used by the Melcher family on their farm in Bally, Pennsylvania prior to the structure being relocated to the Heritage Center in 1985. The mill represents a rare and complete example of a water-powered, multi-purpose farm mill.
