Longswamp Township Annual Budget
The Board of Supervisors is responsible for passing a budget for the Township prior to the start of each year. This process takes several months, generally starting in the month of August. The Treasurer prepares and submits to the Board of Supervisors a “Budget to Actual” report to show how the Township finances are doing, and compares to the current year’s budget figures. The Treasurer also prepares a preliminary budget projection for the coming year. The Supervisors review and discuss the preliminary budget during Budget Workshop meetings which are advertised and open to the public.
In order to meet the State advertising and notification requirements, our budget is tentatively approved during one of the Board of Supervisors Meetings held in November, and then final budget adoption is approved at one of the December Board of Supervisors Meetings.
Longswamp Township utilizes the chart of accounts recommended by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the fiscal administration of Pennsylvania Municipalities. At the close of each year, the accounts and all financial statements are audited by our appointed Township Auditors, an independent Certified Public Accounting firm. The results of this audit are made available to the public (by advertisement and in the Township Office) and submitted directly to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CPA firm also prepares the annual reports required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
