Welcome to the County of Berks
Welcome to the Office of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities
  • All Berks County employees and anyone entering county buildings must wear a mask or they will be denied entrance. If you have questions related to COVID-19, you can visit the www.doyourpartberks.com website for more information.

Most Developmental Disability, Early Intervention and Behavioral Health Providers are continuing to provide services, however, availability of some services and the way you receive services may be different than before (i.e.: over the phone, rather than in person or in the community). 24-hour services, such as residential care, are also continuing to operate.  Stay in contact with your provider as they know you best and can advise and respond as situations change.  If you are unable to reach that provider and need assistance, please contact the MH/DD Program as indicated above.

If you are experiencing an emergency, please continue to contact Crisis Intervention Services at 610-236-0530.  If you need to communicate with MH/DD Program Staff, please contact the office at 610-478-3271, extension 6580 or email at mhdd@countyofberks.com.

About Department

Our Vision: The Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities system will be a partnership of consumers, family members, service providers and policy makers which creates options responsive to individual needs and preferences.

Our Mission: To provide quality care as well as the delivery of efficient public services and supports for individuals with mental illness and intellectual disabilities so that they can increase their opportunities and abilities to lead lives of dignity and independence. Acknowledging that Recovery is an ongoing process, MH/DD is committed to promoting personal growth, choice, and inclusion of consumers in their community.

About MH/DD: The MH/ID Act of 1966 established the MH/DD Program. The PA Department of Human Services through the Office of Developmental Programs, the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and the Office of Child Development and Early Learning regulates the Program. The federal, state and local government funds it. Through its contracted provider network, it administers a broad array of services for individuals and families.
